Hong Kong
If I had to describe Hong Kong in a sentence, it would be 'A vibrant and colorful city, with breathtaking skylines and sceneries, mouth-watering cuisines that can satisfy even the greediest glutton, and a myriad of shopping avenues where shopaholics can indulge in.'
Why do I say so? Let's analyze each section of the sentence, shall we?
'A vibrant and colorful city...' - In the day, the busy streets of Hong Kong are evident. One can hear many cars and buses honking at each other, see hoards of people crossing the roads, and smell delicious food served to patrons of various roadside stalls and eateries. At night, Hong Kong doesn't slack off regarding her activities - there are multiple nightclubs and bars that one can frequent in places like SoHo and Lan Kwai Fong. Beautiful and glaring neon lights can also be seen in many streets at night, adding color and life to this magnificent city.
'...with breathtaking skylines and sceneries...' - Hong Kong is well known for its gorgeous view of the skyline from Victoria Harbor. One could quickly pay HKD2.50 to tour the Star Ferry to catch an awesome skyline view, day or night. This was one of the cheapest attractions (Star Ferry) that I've been to in Hong Kong. Besides the view of the breathtaking skyline from Victoria Harbor, one can also travel to Victoria Peak to gaze at the awesome skyline while being at 554m above sea level. Besides that, Hong Kong offers splendid views of natural sceneries; as one climbs up the 268 steps to reach the Tian Tan Buddha, he or she can get a fantastic view of the Po Lin Monastery, together with the mountainous terrain as a luscious backdrop.
'...mouth-watering cuisine that can satisfy even the greediest glutton...' - A trip to Hong Kong wouldn't be complete without trying Dim Sum. The Cantonese love their Dim Sum, and such a scenario is evident in teahouses, which are packed with locals enjoying their scrumptious food served in small steamer baskets or on small plates while sipping cups of hot tea. This practice is also known as Yum Cha (饮茶). During my trip to Hong Kong, I savored various kinds of Dim Sum, from sweets like sago pudding to savory like baked barbeque pork bun. I'm not a food critic; hence, I can't describe food very well. But I want to say that my Dim Sum in Hong Kong was DELICIOUS. Although Dim Sum is an iconic food of Hong Kong, many other foods of Hong Kong are famous around the globe as well, such as Egg Waffles, Roasted Meat, Curry Fishballs and much more. Your taste buds will be in for a treat when you come to Hong Kong! As a glutton myself, I'll admit that my cravings for Cantonese cuisine were indeed satisfied when I came here!
'...and a myriad of shopping avenues where shopaholics can indulge in.' - A classical slogan that aptly describes one's experiences in Hong Kong would be 买东西,吃东西, 买东西,吃东西 (literally means shopping and eating repeatedly). Hong Kong is a shopping paradise that can satisfy any shopaholic's desires - she has many shopping streets like Ladies' Market, where one can purchase various accessories, souvenirs, and cheap clothing, and Sneakers Street, where one can purchase fashionable pairs of kicks. Those who prefer high-end shopping can head to malls like SOGO in Causeway Bay. You are spoilt for choice when shopping in Hong Kong!
Although this was a short 5d4n trip to Hong Kong, Macau, and China (Zhuhai), it was deeply memorable. I had lots of fun exploring Hong Kong on my own and also together with my friend. During the 5d4n trip, we explored Hong Kong for the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th (last) days. The 2nd day of the trip was spent exploring Macau and China (Zhuhai). Photos about Macau and China (Zhuhai) will be uploaded onto another page. If you are interested in seeing where I've been to in Hong Kong, feel free to explore the video and the photos below, which have been classified according to the various days of the trip (Day 1, Day 3, Day 4, and Day 5).
It may have been a short trip, but I could see so much of Hong Kong (and Macau and China). What a way to begin the summer holidays!
