Day 2 - GitHub Universe 2023

Today, we received training from the GitHub Education managers - Juan Pa and Dyson.

Talking with them, I learned that GitHub has an amazing history - particularly, I enjoyed learning many aspects of their origins and the working culture at GitHub. Lessons-wise, I learned how to create my elevator pitch, interact with various campus experts - particularly Ignacio and Alberto, and learn about their tech communities in Chile and Mexico, respectively. After the lesson, the education managers at GitHub - i.e., Juan Pa and Dyson selected five campus experts to be part of an 'Ask Me Anything' (AMA) Panel Discussion for GitHub Partners. This was an excellent opportunity to improve my public speaking skills. I was excited to work with four other campus experts for the panel discussion - Alberto, Grace, Harsh, and Larry (all of us were from different countries around the globe).

Afterward, we headed to the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Hotel to collect our registration passes for the GitHub Universe 2023 conference (scheduled tomorrow and the day after tomorrow on the 8th and 9th of November). The CEO of GitHub - Thomas Dohmke, came down personally to have a short meet-and-greet session with us, the campus experts, at the conference registration venue in the hotel :)
An hour later, it was time for the AMA Panel Discussion for GitHub Partners. It was an exciting panel discussion between the campus experts and a global audience. I learned the perspectives of other campus experts from around the world - i.e., Canada, India, Mexico (and Singapore - me) as we shared our thoughts on AI innovations, open-source communities, and our contributions. The panel moderator, Morgan, and the audience asked us intriguing questions - and from the provided responses, I managed to learn from that as well. Overall, I immensely enjoyed being a panelist on the AMA Panel Discussion as I got to hone my public speaking abilities and learn from the perspectives of other global campus experts.

Before the day ended, we wrote postcards for one another. After that, we parted ways, and the group I was still with decided to explore the city of SF in the evening. I photographed the city buildings juxtaposed with the surreal evening backdrop. The group further split up - some wanted to go to the internal networking session organized by GitHub, while others, like me, wanted to grab a nice dinner and return to the hotel for an early slumber.

Naren, Harsh, and I opted for the dinner option - and we decided to head over to Pier 39 (a famous tourist spot in SF) to grab a nice warm dinner. We decided to go to Boudin to try out their famous sourdough bread with soup. It was such a massive bowl of bread and soup - and I couldn't finish eating it. I think two people can share that huge bowl of bread and soup. After dinner, we bought some chocolate souvenirs for our families. We then walked around the pier for a bit, talking with one another about the intricacies of life before heading back to the hotel for an early night.
