Day 1 - GitHub Universe 2023

It was a 16-hour flight from Singapore to the USA (San Francisco) with a transit layover in Japan. I took JAL Airlines, and it was a pretty comfortable flight.

I was drained once I landed at SFO airport as I did not sleep during the 16-hour flight. My original intention was to head straight to the hotel and have a good nap. But since Day 1 was the only free day for all of the Campus Experts, when someone suggested visiting the nearby attractions, I decided to join the group and tag along.

We visited attractions near our hotel - The first In-N-Out Burger joint, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli, and the Golden Gate Bridge. My highlight of Day 1 was visiting the Golden Gate Bridge with Harsh, Naren, Grace, and SeoHyun. The Golden Gate Bridge is an iconic attraction of San Francisco and was the top item on my bucket list to visit in SF. The weather was cool and pretty cloudy - and towards the evening, the clouds kind of blocked the view of the bridge. Nonetheless, it was such a surreal experience visiting this engineering marvel. As 5 of us walked along the bridge, we were thoroughly amazed by the splendor of the orange vermillion bridge architecture and took multiple photos along the journey on the bridge.

Afterward, we headed over to the group dinner organized by GitHub. I ordered a plate of seafood pasta - and the portion sizes in the US were huge. After dinner, we proceeded back to our hotel - Courtyard by Marriott San Francisco Fisherman's Wharf, and after a nice hot shower, I immediately headed to slumber land due to jetlag and lack of sleep ;)
